An amusing scrap car event from Southampton to Glasgow took place over the weekend, to raise funds for PLANETS Charity.

PLANETS Cancer Charity and Regal homes discussed this mad rally idea together back in 2016, and after the success of the first event decided to run it twice more over the last few years!

The event started at Popham Airfield and was filled with fun challenges and tasks for each of the 13 teams – from obstacle courses and time trial rally’s to tasks like transporting liquid without any spillages. Teams then took to the road and made their way to the halfway point in Doncaster which included an overnight stay and some more challenges along the way. Everyone fully embraced the event, and all of the silliness that came with it. Some of our favourite tasks being – pretending to be a horse galloping through a service station, imitating a chicken and laying an egg, demonstrating how to make an omelette on your engine and then eat some of it or re-enacting the Romeo & Juliet balcony scene with a librarian – all whilst members of the public watched (and hopefully laughed) along! The second and final part of the weekend was making their way to Cameron House, on Loch Lomond – where everyone had a celebratory dinner, drinks and an overnight stay.

This event was the third in a series, and with a total of £34,537 being raised, it has taken PLANETS Cancer charity over the £100,000 mark across all three of the events!

“We have been overwhelmed with the amount of effort everyone has put into this event, and by the amount of support we have received from friends, family and members of the public too. When we first spoke about this event with Regal Homes, we never imagined we’d be able to raise over £100,000. What an incredible amount of money raised! We’ve met so many wonderful people along the way and are really proud at what we’ve managed to achieve across all three Scrap to the Future events. Watch this space for details of the fourth event in the series…” Layla Stephen, CEO PLANETS Cancer Charity.
