Dr Richard Ellis is an experienced gastroenterologist in a broad range of conditions and aims to provide an expert, well balanced opinion and takes particular care to communicate this to his patients.
He qualified in London at Charing Cross and Westminster and completed his specialist training in gastroenterology at several centres of excellence including St Thomas’ Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the specialised gastroenterology hospital, St Mark’s Hospital. He undertook a period of research at St Thomas’ Hospital leading to his thesis in inflammatory bowel disease.
He was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Portsmouth in 1999.
He treats a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, particularly indigestion, reflux and dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease (colitis and Crohn’s disease). He is an experienced expert endoscopist and is a National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme colonoscopist.
