Patients, clinicians and supporters of PLANETS Cancer Charity raised £26,000 at its Greatest Showman–themed charity ball held last Saturday evening (15 November).

The event took place at Southampton Football Club’s St Mary’s Stadium, where more than 180 guests enjoyed an evening of entertainment, fundraising and celebration.

The night was hosted by comedian Adger Brown, who also led the live auction, with music from The Audio Allstars keeping the dancefloor busy throughout.

Guests were treated to themed performances including a contortionist from Daze Entertainment and a photobooth provided by S&Co Events. The venue was decorated by Simply Flower and charity volunteers supported collections throughout the evening.

During the event, PLANETS recognised the outstanding fundraising efforts of Colin Zaczyk, who has raised more than £100,000 over the past 10 years through various events and challenges.

PLANETS co-founders Dr Brian Stedman and Neil Pearce addressed guests with an update on the charity’s work and plans for the coming years, highlighting the importance of continued support during difficult economic conditions.

Jo Green, director of operations and marketing at PLANETS, said: “We were delighted to welcome so many supporters to this year’s charity ball. Events like this play a crucial role in helping us continue our work and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, donated and supported the evening.

“The £26,000 raised will directly fund our ongoing projects, from patient support and specialist services, to pioneering treatments and research. As we look ahead to the next phase of our fundraising, the commitment shown by our community gives us enormous confidence in what we can achieve together.”

Since 2011, PLANETS has raised £2.5 million to support patients with pancreatic, liver, colorectal, abdominal and neuroendocrine cancers.

The charity funds patient support groups, innovative treatments and research, including the UK’s first mobile electron beam radiotherapy machine at University Hospital Southampton.

PLANETS aims to raise a further £1.5 million over the next five years to expand its work across the region.
