PLANETS to receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support from the store’s colleagues and customers.

Sainsbury’s Hedge End has announced that PLANETS will receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support. PLANETS are a charitable fund based at University Hospital Southampton dedicated to defeating Pancreatic, Liver and Neuroendocrine Tumours, will be the new Local Charity for the Hedge End store.

To celebrate the announcement, a launch day will be planned at the store and representatives from PLANETS will be on hand to greet customers throughout the day. The store team will also be fundraising for the new charity by holding various activities and events throughout the year.

The retailer’s Local Charity scheme is now in its sixth year and gives customers the chance to vote for their favourite local charity to be considered to receive a year’s worth of support from their Sainsbury’s store. The scheme has raised over £6 million to support local charities since 2009.

Store manager Simon Roweberry commented, “ We were very impressed by all of the short listed charities and their presentations and it was only after a long discussion that the colleagues decided to support PLANETS.”  The Hedge End store, situated just off Junction 7 of the M27 has had great success in supporting previous local charities and last year raised over £6,000 for Countess Mountbatten Hospice Charity.

PR Ambassador Lesley Powell said “ We are very much looking forward to working with the charity over the next year and I hope that we can as a store make a small difference by raising as much money as possible”

Thank you to Sainsburys for choosing PLANETS, we look forward to a year of collaboration with you!
