The Carcinoid Care Foundation have highlighted that a little-used class of antidepressants appears potentially effective in combating a certain forms of neuroendocrine tumours, according to a new study from researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

A new study from the Stanford University School of Medicine has found that a little-used class of antidepressants appears potentially effective in combating a particularly deadly form of lung cancer, small-cell lung cancer, a cancer with neuroendocrine features. Imipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant, has also been found to inhibit the growth of cells in some neuroendocrine tumors, including pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, an aggressive skin cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma, and a pediatric cancer called neuroblastoma.
